Green Initiative
From Disposable Packaging to a Culture of Reuse.
A school partnership program initiated by Calipso International to progressively eliminate single-use plastic from school-uniform distribution — the first program of its kind in Lebanon, proven in practice by Beirut Annunciation Orthodox College, the Initiative's first partner school.
2026/2027 implementation update
More than 5,200 single-use plastic bags already avoided.
Beirut Annunciation Orthodox College and Calipso International agreed to bulk-package one uniform item instead of individual plastic bags — already avoiding more than 5,200 single-use plastic bags this year. The College has since begun implementing the Green Initiative itself, introducing reusable solutions designed to replace the plastic bag used on uniform collection day.
The challenge
Used once. Gone forever.
Packaging is necessary to protect, separate and present uniforms correctly. The problem is relying on single-use plastic for every item, set and collection. The Green Initiative keeps the benefits of packaging while replacing disposable plastic wherever practical.
Our solution
One Initiative. Three Collections.
Premium long-life products, practical packaging essentials and the operational assets that move them – all working toward one goal: zero plastic bag use in school uniform distribution.
Premium
Co-branded products built for uniform presentation and years of daily use.
- Everyday School Bag
- Premium Backpack
- Tote & Pouch
- Reusable Water Bottle
Essentials
Cost-effective reusable carry solutions that make wider implementation practical.
- Essential Canvas Backpack
- Essential Canvas Tote
Operational & Packaging
Reusable and returnable assets that address packaging before the uniform reaches the student.
- Fabric Packaging Envelope
- Returnable Bulk Delivery Bag
How it works
From delivery to daily use – closing the packaging loop.
Stock moves to the school in Calipso returnable delivery bags instead of large disposable bags and cartons.
Uniform items that need separation can use reusable fabric envelopes instead of thin plastic packaging.
Premium or Essential bags carry uniforms home without separate plastic collection bags.
The same products continue through school, sport, travel, shopping and everyday life.
Environmental impact
One school. Thousands of plastic bags avoided.
Using the illustrative 1,000-student scenario in the Partnership Overview, the system can remove plastic packaging at both item level and collection level.
Figures are illustrative and vary according to school size and each uniform packaging structure.
Education through use
Visible messages. Repeated habits.
Reusable products do more than replace disposable packaging. Through repeated use, reuse symbols and carefully selected printed quotes, the program helps make environmental responsibility familiar and visible to students and parents.
Beyond packaging
Optional extensions that reinforce the same direction.
The Everyday School Bag and reusable Water Bottle are not required to achieve the packaging objective, but they extend the Initiative into daily school life – reducing sourcing hassle, supporting shared school identity and encouraging additional reusable habits.
School partnership
Participation, not simply a product purchase.
As the Green Initiative’s first partner, Beirut Annunciation Orthodox College gains featured visibility on the Calipso International website, dedicated partnership content, press and communications support, and ongoing promotional support — recognition for leading a program other schools are now invited to join.
